Here we can also encounter various species of game, such as the wild boar (<em>Sus scrofa<\/em>) and the roe deer\u00a0<em>(Capreolus capreolus)<\/em>, and recently also the bear\u00a0<em>(Ursus arctos)<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>Among small mammals, particularly important are the endemic karst dormouse (<em>Eliomys quercinus dalmaticus<\/em>), the snow vole (<em>Chionomys nivalis<\/em>), the Mediterranean water shrew (<em>Neomys anomalus<\/em>) and 18 species of bat. Among these, particularly interesting are the common bent-wing bat (<em>Miniopterus schreibersi<\/em>), the Kolombatovi\u0107 lump-nosed bat and the Alpine long-eared bat (<em>Plecotus<\/em><em>kolombatovici\u00a0<\/em>and<em>\u00a0<\/em><em>Plecotus macrobullaris)<\/em>, and the Bechstein&#8217;s bat (<em>Myotis bechsteini<\/em><em>).<\/em>Rocky cliffs are attractive not only to birds, but also to the chamois (<em>Rupicapra rupicapra<\/em>).<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Apart from various birds living in tree-holes, frequent inhabitants of chestnut forests are squirrels\u00a0(Sciurus vulgaris)\u00a0and the dormouse\u00a0(Myoxus glis).
